Simulated Glacier
Tecplot output of ice surface and velocity cross-sections at indicated positions along the glacier. The 3-D glacier surface is contoured by ice flow speed and displays flow lines.

Heimbach Reservoir
Paul Kamrath,a research engineer at the Institute of Hydraulic Engineering and Water Resources Management, uses Tecplot to visualize the reservoir draining over time. His model estimates the risk of stored toxic sediments mobilizing, reducing downstream water quality.

Gas Swirl Burner
These figures indicate the non-dimensional axial mean velocity components divided with maximum axial mean velocity Umax measured in the Y-Z plane of gas swirl burner.

NASA Aircraft
(Upper Left) - A high altitude concept demonstrator of the Mars Scout ARES aircraft.
(Main Image) - Pressure coefficient contours and volume streamribbons (highlighting the vortex flow field) are shown on the right side of the advanced tailless fighter model. Surface streamtraces are shown on the left side. The goal of this work was to look at various control effector concepts.

Coefficient of Pressure
The coefficient of pressure (Cp) for the potential flow around Joukowski airfoils. On the left, the plots contain a cylinder in uniform flow. On the right, there is transformed space which produces an airfoil in uniform flow. The top plots show the coefficient of pressure distributed throughout space with red representing positive pressure coefficient (pressure above the free stream pressure) and blue representing negative pressure coefficient. On the bottom, the Cp is graphed on the surface of the airfoil using the same data set. This is done by setting the X-Y plot to display only the data where I=1. Note the Cp scales for the two airfoil plots are twice that of their cylinder counterparts.

CRX Model

Dike Failure
The Plot shows what happens when a dike fails and water flows out of the river into a polder. This is a result of some idealized simulations performed to learn about the risk of damage due to dike break induced flows. The plot is divided into several frames, which focus on vectors, stream traces and sections through the wave.

Turbulent Methane Flame
A 2-D fuel consumption contour plot. The fuel consumption peaks at the flame surface. The second image zooms-in on the flame surface where the grid is most refined and the action takes place. The streamlines in the zoomed plot show local advection near the surface. Three normals are drawn perpendicular to the flame and extract fluid and chemical properties. The flame consumption rate along the normals is plotted in the upper XY plot.
The goal is to understand exactly what the flame is doing, and how turbulence affects the combustion process.

The Flood of 1947
The plot shows the results from a 1-D sediment transport model. This study was initiated to look at sediment movement and changes in sediment bed elevations in a river reach upstream and downstream of a dam, in case a flood event occurs.

Flow Velocities
Flow velocities at a cross section of a reservoir

Transmission Electron Microscopy
The TEM image was created by placing a very high energy electron beam on a thin, partially electron-transparent silicon wafer, then recording the electron shadow with the CCD camera. TEM imaging allows for magnifications up to 1,000,000 times, and very high-resolution imaging, with point-to-point resolution of better than 2 nm.
