Problem: I set up a Failover License Server for Reprise License Manager (RLM), but I don’t see a notice in the debug.log file that the server is properly set up. What is wrong and how do I fix it?

Solution: The phrase, “Supporting FAILOVER of server SERVER” where “SERVER” is the primary license server, indicates that the Failover License Server is properly set up to support the primary license server. This is logged in the debug.log file on all platforms, except for Windows platforms where it is logged in the teclmd.log file.

This happens because Windows platforms do not allow two processes to have a file open for writing at the same time. The failover notification originates from the teclmd process, while most of the other notifications logged in debug.log originate from the rlm process. If you start RLM at the command line on Windows platforms, you will see the failover notice because two processes can write to the terminal at the same time.
