Salinity Salinity.
This plot shows the release of a high density fluid in a lower density environment, under a cross flow from the right of the image. The stream tracers show the flow pattern of the ambient fluid as it meets the density current.

Density differences here are with respect to salinity, in the form of saltwater intrusion from a canal into a water body such as a lake.
