Tecplot RS Recovery Maps – Make Informed Decisions Quickly

Tecplot RS Recovery Maps

In Tecplot RS, you now have the ability to calculate and display recovery maps with one click of a button.

What is a recovery map?

First, let’s review a current functionality in Tecplot RS: the KSUM feature. When displaying a 3-D grid, a user can activate the KSUM toggle, which will then display a sum of the visible layers of the grid variable. The new recovery map feature will normalize a difference of KSUM at different time steps. By default, the reference time step is set to time 0, but the user has ability to change this.

Why are Recovery Maps important?

By displaying the recovery map with one click, you are able to make informed decisions very quickly. You could answer important questions like: “What areas are being drained properly?” Or “How effective is my recovery mechanism?” Viewing the recovery map can help you make a very quick decision, like “Where is the most optimal well placement?”

How to Use Tecplot RS Recovery Maps

Here’s a quick walk-through on how to use the new recovery map feature. What I want to do first is to calculate a new variable, and then perform the recovery map calculation.

In the Tecplot RS grid calculator, I’m going to calculate an SOPHIH. Let me display my new SOPHIH variable. You’ll now notice a new toggle labeled “R-MAP.” After toggling this on, you’ll see the recovery map for the selected variable. I could go into the options tab now to change the reference time or to change the scale in the case of negative values.

With this new feature, you can clearly see the areas that have not been properly drained.
